How Germano and Giovanna found a home in Watamu.
↗Our story
Watamu stayed with us.
Giovanna and Germano first came to Watamu about ten years ago. They fell in love with the nature, the colours, the light and the ocean—but, more than anything, with the people: their smiles, simplicity and way of making you feel at home.
During a stay at Rafiki Tamu Resort, they heard that a house was for sale. They visited it, looked at one another and asked, “Why don’t we buy it?” That simple question began a long journey of documents, patience and determination. In time, the house became theirs.
They began making it their own little by little, without changing its soul, and named it GeGi by bringing together their own names: Germano and Giovanna.
The heart of GeGi House
And then there is the terrace.
It is Giovanna and Germano’s favourite corner of the house. In the morning, light moves across the tropical forest, the garden and the pool below while coffee and breakfast are enjoyed outdoors.
In the evening, when the heat gives way to a light breeze, the sofas invite you to stop, breathe and let the day settle. Meals, conversations and quiet moments all seem to find their place here.
Life around the resort
Tropical green, open air and water close by.

GeGi House is in Residenza Maisha, inside Rafiki Tamu Resort. The “Maisha Resort” sign identifies the entrance to the residence. The interior and terrace are exclusively for GeGi House guests. The pool, relaxation and massage area, and outdoor shower are shared resort facilities. Massage availability, costs and booking arrangements can be checked during your stay. The resort restaurant is a few steps from the house.
The swimming pool is shared; guests also have access to the resort’s relaxation area and outdoor shower.
A personal welcome
Catherine, the heart of GeGi House.
With her smile, kindness and discreet presence, Catherine is one of the people who make a stay at GeGi House special. She does more than care for the house: she welcomes guests warmly and helps them feel at ease from the first moment.
During your stay, Catherine takes care of cleaning, tidying and linen. On request, she can also prepare breakfast, lunch or dinner at home, bringing the simple, authentic flavours of local cooking to the table.
For meals prepared at the house, guests buy the ingredients to be used. Every meal detail can be agreed directly with Catherine. A Kenyan cooking class can also be arranged to discover typical local dishes. Format and timing are agreed in advance, according to availability and guests’ needs.
Hospitality“GeGi House is for those who want to slow down, breathe, live and discover.”

Beyond the garden
Watamu is a place to discover slowly.

The coast is only the beginning. Watamu moves between white sand, coral reefs, mangroves, ancient Swahili history, forest and the landscapes that lead towards the savannah.
Between outings, bajaji and tuk-tuks carry you through streets filled with colour, scents, small shops and smiles. A simple “Uko aje leo?”—how are you today?—can become part of the rhythm of the stay.
- Garoda BeachLong white sand, turquoise water, swimming and walks along the shore.
- Seven IslandsA seascape that changes continuously with the tides.
- Marine National ParkClear water, coral reef and abundant marine life.
- Mida CreekMangroves explored by boat or kayak, especially memorable at sunset.
- Gede RuinsAn ancient Swahili city immersed in vegetation.
- Arabuko SokokeOne of the Kenyan coast’s most important forest ecosystems.
- Marafa · Hell’s KitchenDramatic canyons and layers of richly coloured rock.
- Tsavo EastOne or more days on safari, with overnight lodge options and the possibility of seeing wildlife in its natural habitat.
